Chris Smith spoke to Alan McDougall, clinical director and clinical specialist prosthetist at Proactive.

Show notes

Each month in 2024 a different host from our injury teams will speak to a leading figure in their field, exploring the latest developments in their area of expertise in a 15-minute bitesize session.

On Wednesday 24 April we kicked off with Chris Smith speaking to Alan McDougall, clinical director and clinical specialist prosthetist at Proactive.

This session covered the health benefits for amputees of getting back into sports, and what amputees can get involved with.

There remains an imbalance in participation in sport between those with a disability and non-disabled people. Statistics show that 18.5% of disabled people currently play sport on a weekly basis compared to 39.2% of non-disabled people: only 17.9% of people with a physical impairment participate in sport on a weekly basis.
